What we did at ‘Family Fun’ in December 2011

The theme of the month was ‘The Sermon on the Mount’.

All the activities, planned mostly by Barry, were based on the parables and teaching of Jesus gathered together in the ‘sermon on the mount’.

Clay lamps were made to hold a night-light and to look like an oil lamp. These were to remind the children of the bridesmaids waiting for the bridegroom to arrive. This was a reminder for us to be awake and ready to receive God’s message.

One group made soda bread with Cathy. They measured and mixed the ingredients and they were cooked ready for the shared meal at the end.

Another group painted glass mobiles, which the children really enjoyed.

One challenge was to make a ‘Subbuteo’ board complete with footballers and they were tested to see which one worked best – a prize was given for the best one. This was to help children to play fairly and to cope with losing

Another challenge was to write an eleventh commandment – there were some really good ideas and they were read out at the end.

The talk was illustrated and was showing statements from the ‘Sermon on the Mount.’ There were some wrong words in the script that the children had to find and suggest the correct word - thus discussing the story.

Lastly we had the meal of the flat breads. Cath had made a chicken casserole for the fillings, plus ham, cheese and salad.

Family Fun will now be held on the FOURTH SATURDAY AT 4PM.
